Villa Helderberg is only 33 km from Cape Town International Airport, a quick 25 to 30 minute drive depending on traffic. We offer a convenient airport shuttle service (just ask when booking). That is why we are the perfect relaxed base after a long flight, with mountain views and a huge pool waiting for you.

From central Cape Town it’s about 35 to 45 minutes (47 km). From Stellenbosch, however, it’s only 10 to 15 minutes (19 km). In short, our central Somerset West location puts you right in the heart of the Cape Winelands, close to beaches, wine estates and everything you want to explore.

Yes, of course we have secure, private parking right on the property. In addition, the guesthouse is on a quiet country estate at the foot of the Helderberg mountain, with easy access from the N2. High-speed WiFi is also available throughout the villa and garden.

Absolutely! In fact, we are a kid-friendly guesthouse with a huge swimming pool, a spacious garden full of birds, squirrels and butterflies, and a dedicated Family Cottage that sleeps 4 (2 bedrooms, private patio, fully equipped kitchen). Parents love the safe, peaceful setting while kids enjoy the wildlife and pool. Many of our nearby restaurants and wine estates also have playgrounds.

Our recently renovated guesthouse features a huge swimming pool, lush shaded gardens with fireplaces, a cosy Lapa with honesty bar and braai facilities, secure parking and fast WiFi everywhere. It’s therefore the perfect peaceful retreat after a day of wine tasting or beach time, run by the friendly Dutch owners Sonny, Marije & Oliver.

Just minutes from our guesthouse, for example, you’ll find fantastic options: Pyjama’s and Jam in Strand (great breakfast, lunch and cakes with a little shop), SCHOON and Plato on Bright Street (fresh coffee and breakfast), Spoon Bakery & Eatery on Drama Street (late breakfast and cakes), and Babette’s Bakery (healthy options plus a playground for kids). All are, of course, perfect starts to your Winelands day.

Coffee lovers generally head to Weirdough (Argentinian bakery in Somerset West), Ernie Els – The Chilly Shed (beautiful garden setting), or Babette’s Bakery for healthy breakfasts. Meanwhile, for something sweet, Miss Dimples in Gordon’s Bay is famous for cakes.

Yes! Babette’s Bakery offers healthy breakfast and lunch as well as a dedicated kids’ playground. La Pineta and Cattle Baron (both towards Stellenbosch) also have playgrounds, ideal for families staying at Villa Helderberg.

Our top recommendations, all within 10 to 15 minutes: Osteria Cheese Bar or Chorus at Waterkloof Estate (tapas or high-end), 3Kitchens (pizza, grill & sushi, super close), La Pineta or Cattle Baron (extensive menus with kids’ playgrounds), Hussar Grill at Waterstone Village Mall, and Oceans 8 in Strand for sushi and fish. Then, for a special night out, Idiom Wines (scenic and perfect food) or VUUR (best fine-dining braai ever).

For example, meat lovers adore Cattle Baron (playground for kids), The Fat Butcher in Stellenbosch, or Hussar Grill. For something different, Eikendal Vineyards also has Giovanni’s Italian with lovely outdoor seating.

Definitely! La Pineta, Cattle Baron, Lourensford’s Millhouse Kitchen, Blaauwe Kitchen at Blaauwklippen, and Babette’s Bakery all have playgrounds, perfect when staying with kids at our Family Cottage.

Our must-visits include, for example, Vergelegen (lunch, picnics, gardens and tastings), Lourensford (restaurant, market, art gallery), Morgenster (Italian restaurant and olive oil tasting), Hidden Valley (quiet lunch on the lake), Guardian Peak (great wines and views), and Ernie Els (tasting with mini-golf). All within 10 to 20 minutes.

Just a short drive away: Silver Forest Spa in Somerset West or the luxurious Lanzerac Estate Spa in Stellenbosch. Both offer treatments in beautiful settings, so they are the perfect way to relax after exploring the Winelands.

Somerset West is, in fact, very family-friendly. For example, visit Lourensford or Blaauwklippen wine estates (playgrounds and markets), Helderberg Nature Reserve (easy walks), Strand Beach (8 minutes away), or Cheetah Outreach. Many restaurants also have playgrounds, and there’s even an indoor play park (Wild Wild West) and strawberry picking at Helderberg Farm.

Yes! Strand Beach is, in fact, only 8 minutes away, with white sands and safe swimming. Gordon’s Bay and Bikini Beach are also close. So it is perfect for a relaxed family day after breakfast at one of our recommended spots.

Absolutely, it’s practically on our doorstep. For example, short walks (from 2 km), longer hikes, birdwatching, bontebok and tortoises, plus picnic spots with False Bay views. Overall, it is one of the best free or affordable nature experiences in the area.
